Nera Gorges, a story-like trip...

Nera Gorges, a story-like trip...

On Friday, April 22, we set off with spring in our hearts to discover Romania. Our first stop was the Trovants Museum in Costești. These strange, bizarre formations seem to gaze at us with wisdom accumulated over countless years. Born from sliding sands in the valley, they grew with great patience. One is gifted to me, and I am asked to make a wish. Holding it with hope in my palm, I whisper my deepest desire, feeling it almost take root between my fingers.
From here, we head to our next destination: the Women’s Cave in Baia de Fier, Gorj County. To our amazement, we learn it was formed over 4 million years ago, carved into Mesozoic limestone by the Galbenu River. Walking through the nearly 1 km-long cave feels like traveling back in time. The delicate formations and cool air softly tell the story of women and children who found shelter here during times of war. We bow before the "Altar," majestically sculpted by nature, and watch the ceiling and floor stretch their arms toward each other, perhaps to touch now—or maybe in thousands of years.
Emerging into the sunlight, we continue our journey to Băile Herculane. The heavy scent of sulfur announces our arrival. We follow the mysterious phantom of the Dacian guarding his ancestral treasure. Admiring the storied buildings and the contrast between old and new, we reach the statue of Hercules, still majestically watching over the place. Connections form among us as we get to know each other. The Cerna Mountains gift us a peaceful, restful sleep, preparing us for another magical day.

Our first stop is Bigăr Waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
We drink water from beneath the rock, hoping, as legend says, to have the most beautiful children, and we await the blessing of love we carry in our hearts.
We greet the warm sun that accompanies us on our trail to Beușnița Waterfall. The path leads us against the rushing water, its murmurs freeing our minds and urging us to enjoy every step. A sunny, grassy clearing tempts us to run barefoot, as we did in childhood. We arrive at Beiu Lake, its unreal turquoise color and hypnotic beauty drawing us in
On the third day, we head to another natural wonder, the Danube’s Iron Gates, where the river carves its way through cliffs, bringing the banks closer together. Above us looms the face of Decebal, a reminder of our origins.
We return home with joy in our hearts—the joy of experiencing such moments, seeing such wonders, and meeting such beautiful people. I can’t wait for the next adventure!
